Abstract
Gaining knowledge of other people’s countries, their common behaviors, and business practices is vital for effective communication in various business and social interactions. Knowing the origins of individuals and accepting their way of life can be an important part in accepting them as equal acquaintances. The focus of this paper is to aid visitors in understanding and living in Italy. This paper will contain three sections about the country including: general country information, social customs and manners, and business customs and behaviors. Each section will provide unique insight to those wanting to learn about Italy. In the general country information section topics such as geographic location, climate, type of government, currency, religion, ethnicity/ethnic groups, relationships, class structure, family life, sources of national pride, and tourism will be discussed. Other topics such as greetings, dress code, tipping, gift giving, and general etiquette and manners will be discussed in the social customs and manners section. And lastly, important business customs such as greetings, business card usage, communication, gift giving, dress code, negotiation style, and attitudes toward women and older workers will be discussed. After reading about these important topics, readers will have a greater understanding about this unique country.
