ABSTRACT

Cultural diversity exists in a variety of forms in every nation.  Germany happens to be a nation that contains a lot of rich diversity, stemming from the roots of the Berlin Wall, which separated Germany into two distinct countries years ago.  Germany has a set of customs and behaviors that are acceptable for everyday life and a different set that is proper for the business environment.  The very idea of two forms of greetings, gift giving, and attire suggest that Germany’s diversity far exceeds most other developed nations.

Germany has the fifth largest economy in the world, despite having recent years of slow economic development.  In 2002, Germany and 11 other European Unions gave up there old currency and switched to the Euro.  This helped put to end the war-era of Germany and allowed them to embark on a new era, of economic growth.  The German government consists of three-branches, each of which checks on the power of the other.  Their Federal Republic system is similar to the United States.

The division of Germany is still very noticeable today, even with the absence of the Berlin Wall.  The main divisions include East and West Germany, as well as a North and a South Germany.  While West Germany has managed to engage in the 21st century, other parts seem to be lacking in initiative and desire to leave behind the norms and customs of their past.
